Preparing for TEAS Exam

Published

I have been studying to take the TEAS exam during the first week of January. I've been studying the ATI book and testpreview.com. I have not taken the online practice exam yet. If anyone has taken the TEAS test, please help me with the following questions/concerns.

What is the best way to prepare for the TEAS exam?

Are the questions more like the questions in the book or on testpreveiw.com ?

Are your practice test scores (either the ATI online test or book test) an accurate reflection of the TEAS exam ?

Which practice tests are the most accurate ? (ATI online test, ATI book or testpreview.com questions ?

Are many of the most commonly used words in the reading section?

If so, are they used like they are in the ATI book or on the testpreveiw.com ?

Any advice for the math and science portions ? Such as, What is esstential to know ? What are the most common problem types ( such as word problems, charts percentages, gemoetry ect for math) and (definitions, charts, terms, bio, chem, general and physical science for science)

Hi,

I have just purchased the 2 online tests from ati. When are you taking the test? I am taking it on January 23th. This is my second time taking it. I ran out of time on the math section and didn't do good in science. The biggest thing in the math section is % lots and metric conversations, lots~~ Ratio, convert C to F no area problems but a few alegebra. I will begin to work on the online test and let you know if it's close to the real thing. In chemistry it has some about electrons and the table. It also has some about plants and rocks. Hope it helps!!

Oh by the way the first time I practiced from testpreview.com and it was not a big help. It is too broad and none of the same questions were on their.

Hi, I'm in PA. Different schools here require that you take the test at their location. So, I took it once on 12/23 and I taking it again on the 6th . When did you take it the first time ? I've been using ATI Study Guide, www.testpreview.com and ATI Online test. I Thought the pretest was easier in Reading and Math then the actual test. The reading on the test had some kind of drawing excersise involving numbers that was not simular to any of the test reparation material. I guest for some of the math because I ran out of time. I had trouble with some of the percentages and metric problems. I thought that the science was hard and the book did not provide all of the necessary information to do well. I think some of the questions assumes that the test taker had more extensive knowledge of the sciences than the book provided. The one program I took the test for on 12/23 required a 75% overall to get in and admissions is basically first come first serve. However, the school I really want to go to has a minimum of a 60% on everything except reading, which is 65%. However, the school says that applicants are not informed of their acceptance until after the test deadline and application deadline. So, I have no idea what other students scored. ( I asked but they wouldn't tell me). It's the first year that they have done the TEAS. (They used the NET up until now). So I cannot go by past scores of currently enrolled or graduated students. What does your school require ? Are you taking the TEAS for LPN or RN ? Thanks for writing.

hi,

i should have been more clear. i am taking the practice test from the ati testing center. i have to take the real test on campus on january 23th. i had trouble with math and science. i am trying to get in the rn program and we have to have a 75. i did practice from the www.testpreview.com and it wasn't much help. i will tell you the practice take on ati is almost exact as the real test. if you can tell me what math you are struggling with i will send you the problems off the practice test. i wrote all the questions down. i haven't got to the science section yet.

This might be a dumb question, but I am going to ask it anyway!! I have not yet signed up to take the TEAS test. I have just started brushing up on things since I have been out of school for 15 years. When you buy the online ATI tests, do you have to sit there and do the whole thing at once or can you do a little bit at a time?? Thanks!!

Hey,

That is actually a great question and I did ask. Yes, you can do each section at your own pace. I have been working on the first practice test for a week. All you do is hit quit test and when you start back it will begin where you left off. It is great because you can take your time and write down all the questions to practice. It is very close to the real test. You can keep working as long as you don't hit submit for grading. Just to let you know the 2 attempts are the same test. But it has been a great tool!! I am going to take the final practice test again just before I take my teas test again. Good luck!! I have been out of school for 12 yrs. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

hello everyone, I'm taking the NLN (NATIONAL LEAGUE OF NURSING) pre-extrance exam. I took the teas and I passed, I found it to be for the most part pretty easy, except the science.. oh my, I'm a chemistry major and I was so lost with the biology and earth science. I'm applying to a different nursing school (Mercy Hospital Miami,fl) and I have to take the NLN I understand that this is "supposed" to be easier but I still feel a little nervous, any advice? :uhoh21:

Thank you for your help!! When did you start studying for the test? I looked online this am and saw that the program I am trying to get in offers several in Jan and then nothing until mid April and then several again in May. The deadline for the program application is sometime at the end of May. If I have to take it again, don't I have to wait 30 days between tests?? I think I read that somewhere. I don't know if I could be ready by the end of Jan. I think I will do fine on the reading and verbal. I think the math and science might be tough though - esp the science. I haven't had biology since 9th grade!! I took Chemistry in college and never had any physics!! Am signed up for A&P this spring (starts next week!!). I am excited and nervous. Would love any and all advice!

I bought the study guide and 2 practice tests online from ATI. First test scored a 62%. Studied the book.. mostly math.. and then got and 86% on the real TEAS! The TEAS questions are set up identical to the book, they change the substance of the question but the format is the same. I'm really strong in comprehension/english and I did like a 98% in those categories alone.

I'm not so hot with Chemistry, nor is it required for my ADN program so I didn't impress there. But I got in on my first try! My overall GPA is a 3.98 and I'm considered a junior by college hours. The book is worth it in my opinion and the online tests helped me gauge what I needed most focus on.

Get a good night sleep beforehand!

I didn't purchase the study guide but I have taken the online practice test. Is the study guide similar to the online practice test? I am having trouble with the timing section for the math. It doesn't seem to be that hard but I ran out of time when I took the teas test a month ago. Thanks for your information..:yeah:

Does anyone know how the TEAS exam compares to the NET exam??

For one of my schools I'm taking the NET exam this Thursday the 8th and have been preparing using a Kaplan book that appears to be comprehensive for all nursing school entrance exams. Does anyone know if this type of book will suffice for both tests?

I'm just hoping that by studying for the NET right now, I'm kind of studying for the TEAS that I need to take in a few weeks.
