I found this link interesting. Can you elaborate ,what exactly are duties of a nurse who has certified in Informatics? What are the opportunities and what is the pay scale?
I'm doing RN right now.
Thanks in advance.

Another source in preparing for the nursing informatics exam or learning about the field of NI is to attend a WINI. (Weekend Immersion in Nursing Informatics). ANCC approved contact hours are awarded for this conference. For a description of the course, faculty and course locations visit http://www.icce.us or http://www.winiconference.net.

For a better idea of the range of activities an informatacist, look at these:

I manage a clinical information system for a small rural hospital in Alaska. I develop, train, maintain the system and other things ad hoc. I work out of the IS dept with 3 Technical folks. I am paid as a nurse at a rate commensurate with my years and accomplishments in nursing. Some folks are NOT paid in the nursing scale and that may vary be better or worse. Depends on locale, duties, preparation, etc etc. YMMV
BTW. Angela Lewis, who moderates this board and whose post you replied to, is one of the "Names" in American Nursing Informatics. Can't get it from a better source!
Dedjim thanks for the compliment!
Healinghand,
You will find that nurses who practice in the specialty of Informatics have a variety of roles and responsiblities. To see just how varied this specialty is check out the HIMSS Nursing Informatics survey. The survey results provide information as salary ranges for NI positions, geographical areas of concentration, informatics training and clinical background of NI professionals.
Survey results provide information about Nursing Informatics for those investigating this specialty and aggrigate data for those currently practicing in the specialty.

ALSO a little bit about my experience as an Informatics Nurse:
I was originally an Associates degree RN , practiced clinically for 18 years when in 1996 I transitioned from direct hands on care to I.S.
I held a BSN both when I made the transition and when I sat for the exam . I sat for the NI cert exam after practicing 2 years in the specialty.
I've held several roles within healthcare informatics, primarily in systems implementation/installation. Previous position titles: Informatics Coordinator, Clinical Analyst, Clinical Applications Specialist, Nursing Informatics Consultant and Research Informatics Nurse. My current role is Project Manager, Clinical Information Systems for a pediatric hospital.
