Preceptorship...?

Hi guys!

i need opinions on what unit to pick for my preceptorship. I loved ICU! I spent my ICU rotation on NSICU (neuro-surgical) & enjoyed it so much that I could picture my future on that floor. I would love to start off working ICU as a new grad & luckily that unit does hire new grads as well. Would it be a good idea to pick that to precept? Wondering what everyone thinks about picking an ICU vs med surge

I say go for it if it's what you love. I precepted in the ER because I had enjoyed my clinical days there and wasn't a big fan of med surg. Was hired into the ER before I graduated and have been there ever since.

Chances are, you're not going to get your first choice of preceptorship. ICU is popular and there are only so many slots to go around. It's fine to put it on your list, but understand that most people don't get it. And that's OK, too. You'll learn a lot no matter where you do your preceptorship. Med/Surg might actually be a better choice for learning the basics.
