Have been an RN for >25yrs., mainly in clinic, home health, LTC, very little hosp.exp. Went back to the hosp. for stable hrs./good benefits. Have been at my job for 3wks., and enjoy it. Except for one of my preceptors.
She is so "cold", have to "pull info" out of her, and seems to have the attitude to let me learn on my own.
The other preceptor has been great, and have learned more from her in just a few days.
Am pretty well on my own now, and feel good about my nursing care, just learning to pick up speed, and learn to fine tune the paperwork. (alot has changed in hosp. nursing since I was there a # of yrs. ago!)
Have known the "cold ns." for a number of years, and she has been friendly, and is a deeply religious person--but now that we are co-workers, it is almost as if I don't exist.

I would take her aside privately and talk to her and find out what is going on. Otherwise it isn't going to get solved.

Maybe she is shy or nervous about being a preceptor, and may not realize the "vibes" she is giving off. I say this because some people have in the past, thought I am snobby or something but I'm really just very shy/quiet, of course I haven't been in the preceptor role so I don't know how that would go.
Has she been preceptor for others in the past or is this her first experience with it?
I agree to talk with her about how you're feeling. Good luck and WELCOME!!!!
