preceptor decision

Published

Hello All,

This is the first time that I have posted in the graduate nurse section but I have a question that I think you guys could help me with.

I am in the next to last semester of our program and have to make a decision about where to go for my preceptorship. We have to give them our top three choices but I have not experienced some of them in the clinical area so I just do not know what to do. I have done the surgical floor and loved it, but I was wondering about the OR, ER, and NICU or even Home Health.

Does anyone have an awsome preceptor experience to share? I need to give them my list in a couple of weeks. I really appreciate whatever advice anyone can give me...

Of course, I'm biased because all I've ever worked is ER...but if you don't have a place you're really drawn to yet, I think the ER is the best place to precept. Where else will you get such a variety of experiences? You will do more skills and see numerous disease processes ranging from very young to very old. This experience will help you no matter where you decide to start your nursing career.

DID you decide where you would like to go???? inquiring minds want to know... :)
