Pre-Requisite Advice

I plan on taking an anatomy course over summer and then my micro and physio in the fall of 2015 that way I can apply to the Solano nursing program for 2016. I need advice on whether I am taking the right approach or not. HELP PLEASE!

For my school I had to take AP 1 before micro and then I could take AP 2 whenever. I would strongly advise to do AP, micro is a challenge and having the AP under your belt will definitely be helpful. My anatomy and physiology were combined so im not sure about that. Either way try your BEST to get A's in all of the science classes. Good luck

My school had it broken up as Anatomy/Physiology 1 and A&P 2. It is possible to take A&P2 and Microbiology together, I know people who have done it an succeeded and several people who are doing it now. That being said both instructors and advisers at my school discourage it for most students because that quarter will be incredibly tough and school will need to be your life. Many students cannot handle the stress and time commitment of taking both courses together. To my knowledge those who managed to do well while taking both courses at once did not have substantial outside commitments (kids, full-time work etc.) and could focus their energy on school.

I don't know the specifics of the school you want to apply to and if it is better to have both courses done at time of application or if one can be "in-progress" when you apply. A lot of this is going to come down to your skills as a student, how many demands you have on your time and energy outside of school, and your own comfort level with academic stress.

That all really depends on you. Are you taking any other courses with physiology and micro? Do you struggle with the sciences or does it come naturally? Are you working full time? A lot of factors play into it, my advice is to aim for straight A's. Don't wanna take on too much only to find out you're not eligible to apply.

a lot of people do it! you just have dedicate yourself and realize that you're taking to science courses which can be overwhelming. Good luck & best wishes :)

Thank you!!! I think I should be fine because my job is pretty flexible with my schedule, so that way I can focus on the assignments!

I personally did: Anatomy then microbiology then chemistry then physiology. If I could go back in time I would have completed anatomy and then physiology the following semester. There was nothing from microbiology that prepared me for physiology. I know students that completed both microbiology and physiology and it is a struggle, especially since the concepts don't exactly overlap. Of course determination and lots of hard work is all you need and I'm sure you'll do fine. If you can though I would wait to take microbiology after physiology. Good luck!
