Pre-req's for Nursing

Hello everyone, I've recently applied for Spring 2011 classes at CCP (community college of Philadelphia). I was told to select cultural science as my major in order to get into the nursing program later on. I don't really understand why, but I guess that's how it works.

My question is, what are the required pre-reqs I have to take ? Math, Bio, Chem and all the basics is a must, right ?

Is anyone else here attending CCP ?

Hello Emdee577,

I also applied and was accepted into CCP! To be honest, I'm there to take some classes in order to apply to Penn and Jefferson's Accelerated programs. However, most Nursing programs request that you take these courses as your prereq's

Biology and Chemisty with lab's

Anatomy & Physio I & II

Microbiology

Nutrition

Human Behavior/Developmental Psychology

Statistics

(depending on your program maybe more sciences)

If you have anymore question's please don't hesitate to ask!

ALWAYS check with the school itself. Many schools have prereqs, especially if accelerated, but some have NONE as long as you have Highschool degree within last 10 years with both bio and chem, as well as algebra(as all "typical prereqs" are part of the program). Or taking a bio chem and math to make up for if you dont have them or if its been too long.

From the CCP site

It looks like you only need the bio, chem and math with a good enough gpa(highschool or college). Though that would be something to check with an advisor at the school about to be sure.....such as if you need more.....or if what you have is good enough. Make an appointment to see an advisor and find out what your best path will be to try to get into their nursing program. However it is likely too late to apply for nursing for spring, but if you fill the requirements to apply for nursing you could apply for next fall, and see what classes you can get ahead on during spring.

I am not from philly, and just got accepted into a 18 month diploma program that ALL non nursing classes for the program are to be completed as prereqs. However the 2 "sister schools" to the one I am going to do not have those prereqs because all those classes are part of their (slightly longer)programs (A&P 1&2, Micro, Nutrition, intro psych, development psych, intro soc, eng).....those 2 schools one can enter straight into out of highschool without taking any prereqs.
