Pre-reqs for LPN-RN??

Published

First, what ARE the prereq's that one will have to have had when doing an LPN-RN program? And then, where can you take them (specifically,is there a place to take those pre-reqs online?) I'm thinking in the future that I'll do Excelsior's LPN-RN (according to the faqs pg on the FL state BON website, these are accepted)...but I wonder what pre-reqs I'll need and how to get them online, if poss.

I'm not sure about online, but in a traditional campus school an LPN must complete all the same courses and req's as any other student with the only difference that they start clinicals at nursing 210. (3 semesters of clinicals rather than 5). Req's may vary from school to school but in general you need Bioology, Anatomy and Physiology 1 and2, Microbiology,Math, English, Psychology, etc.........

Good luck. :)

Wow. I hope I can do prereqs online! :stone I have my AA degree, so I have some classes, but none of the sciences, and no college algebra.

This depends on the school and program. Our program does not require "pre-reqs" but the more non-nursing classes you have completed before hand, makes your life less stressful. Some programs do require some pre-reqs sciences just as an example, before they will consider a candidate. It all depends on the specific program.

This too depends on the program you are ultimately wanting to enroll in. As with all programs, where it will accept credit from and the number of transferable credits varies from school to school.

To answer the online question, you CAN take online credit courses in many different areas BUT I would encourage you to check with the school you would like to transfer these credits into before investing the time and money. For most schools, the requirement for transferring in credits is the credit awarding school must be accredited by specific accreditation. (WOW  that was a lot of credit!)

Perhaps you might compile a list of the nursing schools you are interested in, and then contact each asking their pre-reqs and transfer credit policies. (many schools have online catalogs where this information can be found). Then search for the courses you need for admission or pre-reqs online. There are many, many courses online.

Good luck,

Opal
