Pre-Pre-reqs at tri-c

hi, i am going to start finishing up my pre-reqs and co-reqs for tri-c's nursing program (and eventually applying to the program).

im really eager to start something healthcare related now & noticed i can take an ethics for healthcare class.

it says the only requirement is eng 1010 so i am eligible to take it...but i havent had many science classes yet so i want to make sure i wont be completely lost.

i suppose there would be a pre-requirement for certain science classes if that were the case, but i thought i'd see if anyone who actually took the class could give me some input? :)

also, basic nutrition is something i have thought about taking as extra with my pre/co-reqs.

    Oops... Ethics for Healthcare Professionals (HTEC 1110)

    I took HTEC 1110. I found it useful as we did cover ethics in the first quarter of my program (at CSCC) and I already knew all the stuff. It made writing my ethics paper super easy. The exams are also online so that helps. It isn't as easy as you think, though, so be prepared to put in some effort!

    Nutrition is also a valuable class (took it at Tri-C as well). However, it is a more challenging course and exams are taken at the testing center.

    Finally, I took the pharmacology for LPNs and found that it made pharmacology in nursing school easier. Not easy, but easier!

    I took that Nutrition course, Diet 1200. I took it on campus and it was informative and pretty easy. Certainly easy compared to the actual Nursing courses.

    Im not looking for an easy class, I havent taken classes in almost 2 years so I am sort of itching to get back into the books I guess.

    I just want to make sure I'm not going to be lost due to my lack of science/health/med classes. I guess when I say 'lost' I mean are they going to be discussing things that I wont be able to fully understand because I dont yet have any other classes like this under my belt... Would it be smarter for me to take the course in a couple semesters instead of right now??

    Not sure exactly what you are asking, but you want to get everything out of the way before you start taking Nursing courses. Yes you can be taking A&P 1 and Life Span Development Psychology at the same time as Nursing 1300/1450, but students who do that usually aren't successful. Take everything BEFORE starting with the actual nursing courses. Eng 1010, 1020, Bio 1100 or Chem 1010, 1020, Math 1020, Bio 2330, 2340, 2500, Psych 1010, 2020 and whatever liberal arts course you choose. In addition to that Diet 1200 Human Nutrition and Bio 2600 Pathophysiology are a good idea. As far as the health care ethics course that won't really help you at all in the Tri-C nursing program.

    I'm not sure if Tri-C makes you take pathophysiology or not, but CSCC does. It was a HUGE help, I thought. I would recommend taking one before you start first quarter. Seems as though ScottE agrees :)

    Ya im planning on taking all the courses u mentioned before the program..but wanted something extra to keep me entertained and wondered if this course would be a good idea. Finishing those ones in spring semester and wanted to take ethics for the second 8 week session this fall bc im bored Thx again.

    Again, I found Healthcare Ethics valuable. Not really interesting, but valuable. Nutrition and Pathophysiology are courses I would definitely take. I also found the Pharmacology for LPNs valuable as well.

    The ethics course offered by the Philosophy department would probably be of the most value if you plan on transfering to CSU. That course is a requirement for CSU's RN-BSN program.
