Pre-CNA vent...

Published

I've been waiting since 3/8 to hear back from my doctor. Isn't that a bit much?

I need his written clearance to get into a CNA class because I have scoliosis and the school is possibly paranoid about liability issues. I'm long since done growing (and so are my kids, lol) and my scoliosis isn't progressing. I lift computers, monitors (including the old CRT-style heavy ones), and cartons of books on a regular basis at work now, so to me, the back thing is really a non-issue.

But I still have to wait...and wait...and wait for the doctor to get back to me. I've called back twice since the initial call. Don't know what else to do but keep calling.

Grrr, I wanna get started!

I've worked in a doctor's office. This isn't a priority in their eyes and the patients who are more demanding will be tended to. If you show up to "pick up the letter" it might light a fire under their bums. Generally, 2 weeks is a reasonable waiting period. My letter from the cardiologist too 3 months ha! I didn't wait around and got one from my primary doc instead. It was comical to open my letter after graduating the CAN program. :jester:

And now I'm laughing about typos from using my Droid to post...

LOL, yeah I've typed some doozies with my autospeller, too!

Thanks for the reply. Someone else I was talking to today suggested that too, about just going in and telling them: I'm here to get my letter (and I'm not leaving until you give it up!! :D). Spring break is coming...I think I can wrangle a day to go stand there and tap my foot. ;) Hopefully THAT will do the job.

Ugh my Droid does the same thing..it's annoying haha! I agree about showing up & asking to pick up your letter. That way the Dr. will have to fill it out & give it to you. Sometimes they're so busy that they forget to fill out stuff like school forms.

Thanks. That's 3 votes for going in and none against. I'll do it. :D

Call the manager of what ever clinic or office you went to if it's part of a medical group. If it's the doctors private practice that won't work. But I recently had an issue with a Rx. It was from a medical center that is a part of a hospital system. (facility is not in the hospital but all same company) This facility prides itself on it's great customer service and so on. Well anyway, my Ins. changed after Jan 1st I guess (the coverage on meds) and they were now requiring a Pre Auth from the doc to cover the RX. Anyway, at the end of the day 2.5 weeks past and the doc still had not called the Ins. company and given the Pre Auth. I had to abruptly stop the med which you weren't supposed to do. I could have sucked it up and paid full price for the med but it was really expensive. Finally I called the manager of the clinic, told them this should not have taken more than 2 days I was very polite (it's not like she knew) yet I was firm that this was unacceptable. That I have called back every other day to get a status, the the pharmacy has tried to do what they can. I had a Pre Auth by the end of that same day.

that must be pretty tough..

Thanks all for your supportive posts! I found another school to take my CNA class from (their schedule actually works much better for me too) and they were not asking for a doc's statement in order for me to take the class, so I enrolled there. I start class on April 18th! :yeah:
