I've been slowly reviewing med/surg material for 6 weeks. I try to do 50-100 questions/day about 5 days/week. I admit, I haven't studied every day! I'm reviewing pharm this weekend. I have about a week left to study...
I just don't know where to focus my efforts. I haven't reviewed maternity, pediatrics or psych at all. I figure I should probably do practice tests in those content areas and not study them if I do over a certain percentage. There are still med surg areas I am not strong in even after studying... GI, endocrine, ortho...
I feel like I'm running out of time even after putting in a concerted effort for nearly 2 months. I've done about 3500 practice questions so far in preparation for the NCLEX. Kaplan says scores of 65% or more are good enough. To me, it seems low and I feel like I should score higher. What percentage is considered ENOUGH before moving on from a content area???
Advice on how to structure my final week of study from those who have been there, done that and passed
Thanks for the support...

I remember feeling the way you do about preparing for the NCLEX exam. Firstly, try to get kaplan question bank or practice questions and do as much practice questions as possible. Review those areas that you need improvement while doing so and you have a greater chance of passing. I just found out yesterday that i passed with 75 questions, all thanks to kaplan. The reason is that kaplan helps you think critically especially with prioritization and delegation questions which is very common on the exams. I wish you all the best. Take care and stay cool.

Doing questions were the most helpful for me.....there is NO WAY to learn all content/meds etc...but you can learn how to strategize and get good at the questions. If you already have the basic content areas down then I would suggest doing only questions and reviewing the rationales...I found Kaplan to be most like NCLEX...The highest q bank I ever got was 72%/lowest was 48%...I just passed with 75 questions. Good luck...and let us know how it goes!

Thanks,looking forward for it.
Thank you so much for the replies. Jess, thank you for reassuring me about your test scores. I was freaking out because even though they said 65% I felt that was too low... I thought I should be getting higher scores by now. Your scores are in line with what I've been getting 65-low 70s... thank you so much. Good to know you passed in 75 questions... 1 week left to go...

grnmtngirl, I took my on wednesday and just found out that I passed this moring...so I 'll just tell u what i had on my exam. I had 75 Qs with lots of priority and teaching/education Qs. I had only one "check all the above" question which I'm pretty sure I got wrong. Meds Qs I got about ~10 and 2 med calculation questions. I don't think I got any OB or psy Qs but for u it wouldnt hurt to do a quick review 2 days before ur exam day.
What I would suggest is know your labs well. Be sure u know ur delegation, nursing fundamentals (TPN administration, trach care, etc..) and diagnostic tests (colonoscopy, schilling test). As far as the meds go, I really dont have a good answer to that. With my exam, I had about 10 or so meds questions, and to be honest most of them I never even heard of...and I studied them a lot. Focus on side effects/adverse effects and contraindations (i.e each meds's contraindicated diseases).
Hope that help and best of luck to ya.
