Post Conference

I am in Staff Education and am getting ready to do a post conference for nursing students, actually several.

My first one I planned on setting up a room with at least 5-10 things wrong and test assessment skills.

I have a list of things already but was wondering if any of you have done this and if you had any other suggestions. SHould I give each student 5 minutes in the room or less time, any thoughts would be helpful.

I also plan on doing one for second year students on the reality shock of being transitioning into the RN role.

Doing one on cardiac for second year students, I am not an extemely creative person so any ideas would be helpful.

I do have a PP for my cardiac one and can just talk about growing into the RN role.

I try to let my students do a lot of the post-conference talking. They need some time to vent and share their experiences-good, bad, or otherwise. They help each other with brainstorming for care plans, time management skills, test-taking, getting along with staff, etc. I facilitate and guide the talks. I will also spend some of the post-conference time teaching just like you have spoken about. A blend is what works for me. You may want to ask them how they feel about transitioning to the RN role or how they see it. You may be surprised. Have fun!
