Pool or not to pool?

Hey everybody I just got an offer for a Pool respiratory therapist position at Osborn :yeah: they say that if I prove myself it can turn full time!!! But here is my dilemma Im a HUC at Shea and I can either work 36 hours per pay period and keep my benefits but I will not get pool pay and I will not be able to work as much as an RT which is bad because I wanna prove myself and it will decrease my chances of becoming full time if I only work 3 days a pay period as an RT! :banghead:

Or I can leave my HUC job and get I think about 10-12 dollars more per hour plus I will be able to work more and increase my chances of getting a full time position but my hours are not guaranteed and it gets slow during the summer there is a possibility that I wont get like any hours plus I will lose my benefits ( which Im not worried to much about the medical and dental because its expensive since Im part time and Im only 27 and am healthy)

I could really use your guys wisdom regarding this and appreciate the time you took to read this!

Keep the HUC deal; if they like you and wanna hire you, theyll hire you regardless of the hours you work. But if they don't like you, who says your pool hours wont get cut? Transition slowly.

Good call I think I may do that thanks!

Neb,

I vote both...

I would keep my foot in the "HUC door" (maybe a lower FTE or PRN) and pick up two pool RT shifts per week... or whatever combination. Maybe for a few months you could work 5 shifts per week (3 HUC and 2 RT) and then re-evaluate in 60-90 days. You need to move forward in your career and it's not an employee or new grad market out there... so you need to do what you can to feel safe by staying on the schedule as a HUC... but also moving forward with RT. Just the networking opportunities alone would be worth it.

Good Luck,

Boru

Good advice you guys thank you very much! I have decided to work my Huc job and accept the pool position at Osborn. I will be working 3 days per pay period at Shea in order to keep my benefits and then work minimum 3 days per pay period at Osborn or more if they will allow me. I am just so excited I cant believe I actually got the job I would totally cry if I wasn't a dude:D

Online, dudes are allowed to cry :scrying: ...

I'll keep my eyes open for you at PCH... I know a lot of the RT's there. Their departments going to double in the next two years because of the new hospital. Good Luck

Keep your job! If they really liked you, they would have already hired you on FT. Don't take the risk in the tough times we are facing- imho....
