Points system

Hi everyone!

So, the CC I attend accepts students into the Nursing program based first on a points system (certain pre-reqs earn points based on your grade) then I think they do a lottery for the rest.

My question is, and I'm not sure anyone can even really answer it... but, how hard should I push myself to get as many points as I can? I am taking one points qualifying class this semester, then next I'm taking a pre-points qualifying class (Intro to Psych, Dev. Psych is a point earner) along with Nutrition, both online.

Next Fall I have to take Int. Algebra which is a Gen. Ed. class, and I'll take Chemistry at the same time which is NOT a point earner, but I'm told it's a good class to take along with a Math class....

The following Spring I plan on applying to the nursing program, so I'm going to take for sure two point earners: Human Anatomy and either both or one of Developmental Psychology or Speech (Interpersonal Communication).

Here's my concern with taking three classes, I'm a married mother of three small kids, and I work (at this point) 32 hours/week. I cannot afford NOT to work but who knows where I'll be working next spring. I'm currently working at a hotel but really want to find something in the medical field to gain some experience....

Should I push myself for Spring 2013 and take (those) three classes or would it be better to take just two and have a better chance at an A in those two? Assuming I get an A in my English class this semester, that will give me four points. There are four point earning classes for a possible total of 16 points (four each for an A, three for a B, one for a C). Working moms? What would you do?

Sorry so long winded, wanted to get all the info in one post! LOL

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!!

Missy

Hi, Missy. I would recommend maybe taking one of those classes during the summer. Of course an easier one, like speech. I would def. NOT recommend a summer term rushing through Anatomy. If you take that during the summer, then you could take the other two and it won't be as rough. I, too, am a working mom (2 kids) and I know it's rough. Last semester I took 2 classes back to back on Saturday (3 hours each) and this semester I'm doing two evening classes and an online class. I think you should go for it! That way if something happens, for example, you don't get a C to pass Anatomy, you'll not have to worry about waiting even longer than your original plan. Hope that helps :)

Thanks Nicole!

My plan is to take only online classes through the summer since it's a short semester, which makes the on-campus classes REALLY long and that won't work with my schedule... So... that doesn't appear to be an option... still open to any other advice, otherwise I will see what my schedule is like next spring and go from there. ;)

Thanks again!

I just realized that Speech is offered online for Spring/Fall semesters, so I should be able to work it into one of them! It will be more work with studying but less time spent ON campus makes life easier for me!!
