PMV question

I am a visiting nurse and the other day my pt who has a shiley #4 cuff less told me that when she put on her white PMV her breathing sounded magnified. She removed it and applied her purple one and this stopped. This happened 2 times. I did not hear it personally. She does not get suctioned.

Any thoughts what this could be? She experienced no distress whatsoever with the white one.

My thoughts are perhaps there have been subtle changes in her airways that are perhaps causing the magnification or maybe it's the size difference in the PMV's? But why all of a sudden?

Anyone? I am seeing her again tomorrow and am hoping to have a better answer than "I don't know but will find out".

    difference in resistance?

    did she rinse the white one with hot water?

    or did she perhaps use cleaner or soap which could harm the valve?
