Hey guys, I’m interested in the psych np with UTA.

how often are you guys traveling to the campus?

I live in San Antonio which isn’t very far but I also don’t want to be driving every week to Arlington.

Thank y’all

I'm a graduate but the first 2 semesters were 100% in person. The nursing theory class was 7 hours every other week. The pathophysiology class was a night class- Tuesday/Thursday. The Pharm class was similar the next semester. After that some classes were every other week or once a month. Once you are in clinical (3 classes) you meet once a month. Some people drove in from Houston, Oklahoma, other places and managed but stayed with family in the DFW area or a hotel the night before class.

Hello, I have applied to the UTA PMHNP and I am very concerned about finding a preceptor/clinical placement. Since UTA offers no assistance, did you have a lot of trouble finding your clinical sites to fulfill all the needed hours?

I did not have an issue finding preceptors, I did have significant problems with the paperwork process with UTA. In a couple of short years I had three or four clinical coordinators and they were constantly losing paperwork. I had to resend stuff several times. The process itself was very taxing.

I worked in Psych before going today school and developed a good support network of doctors, NPs, therapists before going back. That’s why I didn’t have a problem finding people. If you aren’t in psych now I would get a RN position ASAP even it’s just PRN. When it comes time for clinicals your employer usually gives preference to employees and you can network with coworkers. If you don’t have any good leads when it comes time for clinicals send me a message and I can give you some leads

Thank you so much for your response. I am not currently working in psych, but I did work close to 8 years at MHMR. I'm hoping I will be able to go that route to find most of my preceptors (hopefully).Do you happen to know anyone who did the PMHNP program at UT Houston? I have applied to both schools, and since UT is 10k cheaper it makes me wonder what the difference is.
