I believe that I want to specialize in Emergency Room Nursing.

Not to be rude, but just out of curosity, what is your annual salary as a ER nurse?

& do you enjoy the job?

I notice that you have a few posts about salary... you can probably do a search online and see the salaries of nurses if youre very interested. Its going to be different across the country r/t cost of living.

Specializes in ER.

salary.com is somewhat accurate - you can plug in where you live and you'll get an approximate range.

Specializes in Trauma, Teaching.

There isn't a differential for the ER here. Same pay scales as in the rest of the hospital.

Specializes in oncology, transplant, OB.

Going by what I read from your previous posts, you're 17 years old, you need to relax about this salary stuff! I admire the fact that you're heart is so set on nursing, I sure wish I was at that age.

From my experience job hunting so far (and this could be wrong) it really doesn't matter what unit you start out on, all nurses start at the same rate. However, that rate does vary from hospital to hospital, and city to city. The exception would be OR nurses who make more, or at least that's what I've heard (again, not sure if that's 100% accurate.) I know for sure that the two Children's hospitals around me do pay less than most hospitals, simply because they can since so many nurses want to work in peds.

I realize it's fun to think about all the different areas of nursing you can go into, like OB, peds, ER, etc but for now focus on your education! Nursing school isn't easy, you have a lot of work ahead of you. But one day you, like your Aunt, will most likely be making $40.00/hour. So just take one step at a time! Good luck!
