this is my first time posting on this site, but have read many of the forums in the past month. just to tell you a little about myself, i graduated from nursing school this past may 2008, and took my boards this past june 30, 2008 and passed! thank you god!! i wanted to take the time to give a few words of encouragement, advice, to the many of you that are to take your boards soon.

throughout my studies preparing for boards i would constantly go on allnurses to read the many blogs that gave good advice on how they studied, testimonies, and the many blessings that fall heavyly throughout this forums. i just want to tell you all, everyone, will and can pass!!!

just some advice......

first and foremost, i told myself that i know this information, i have made it throught two and a half years of nursing school and god has seen me through the many terrifying test. i did not look back at any nursing books. i strictly used nothing but nclex review books.

i heard many good things about kaplan, so i took the kaplan nclex complete class/online course, which i thought was awesome. to study for boards i used kaplan, saunders, nclex 3500, and pearson, along with nursing made incredibly easy books by loretta manning. i made a calender every week of what i wanted to accomplish every week. sundays were my days to review nothing but content, which i listened to all of the content videos that kaplan offers. everyday i did around 200-300 questions a day (mainly to get my mind and body capable of sitting for 6 hours). i would start studying at 9am every morning and finished around 8pm with many breaks in between, especially a big lunch break 12-2pm. i really used kaplan more because it was more of a challenge for me and required me to really critically think. however, throughout my studies i did the others as well. i did not worry too much about my scores just focused mainly of the rationales (right or wrong) and why i got the answers right or wrong.

i have heard a few people who used kaplan but not like it too much because when they used the strategies it never worked. well it did not work for me either, i find myself not able to use to strategies too much, i did better just trying to answer the questions. but when i answered my questions i thought about what the question was asking me, eliminated the wrong ones, and thought about why this or that answer was better than the next. in my opinion, don't get caught up trying to use strategies, the main thing i thought was helpful was 'what was the question asking me'. please do review content, i did believe that you do have to know something to guide you to the correct answers.

i hope this little bit of information is helpful to many of you. stay focused and confident throughout your many hours of studying. stay away from negative and always surround yourself with positivity. i was never a good test taker, did not do well on sats, but i have always stayed positive about my future and career, and look i have made it through nursing school and passed boards. take your time answer questions and find out what the question is trying to ask me.

one more advice, when i went to take my boards i took the whole day before off, made myself not look at anything, told myself i will pass, and walked into the testing area confident, stayed confident the whole time taking the test. and did any and everything thing the following 48 hours.

i just want to thank everyone who posted something on the allnurses site, it has truly inspired me and helped my stay focused through my studies. this is why i felt that i needed to and wanted to post something on hear.

oh! one more thing... i always set up my 'create a test' to do priority questions, analysis and application questions to give me more of a challenge, and when i got things wrong would go back for a few hours to study the content that i kept missing.

i wish nothing but the best for everyone. and always stay focused and positive. each of you can accomplish anything you want out of life.

love you all!!!!!! god bless!!!!

Thanks for posting and congrats

Sorry about the late entry. I took 75 questions. I was very shocked and thats when the nerves picked up after my computer shut off. I did my best to stay confident, but did get nervous once it got close to find out my results.

I got a little bit of everything. I got infection control, priority, who do you see first, pharmacology, OB, psych, teaching questions, 1 math, and around 10-15 SATA questions and maybe a few assessment questions.

I am so excited!!!!!

Congratulations and thanks for the words of encouragement!
