Hello...I am desperately looking for some advice here, hopefully someone can help. I returned back to school a year ago, and during the course of that year decided that I really would like to to go on to Nursing School (I am on track to get my Med. Billing and Coding Certificate March 2011). My personal dilemma is this....I am 52 years old, I will be an empty-nester in June 2011, so that's a good thing, but after sitting down with the Nursing School Advisor today, I feel like my bubble has burst and can't seem to muster up the enthusiasm for Nursing School anymore. She laid out my education plan and I won't even graduate until 2014!!! I would start my prereqs Spring 2011 qtr, that will take 12mos and then I would have to apply to Nursing School (of course that is not a guarantee that I will get accepted either). I am a smart woman, have been successful in my life, but have never done what I really wanted to do as far as a career is concerned. So here is my question.....should I begin with the LPN program first, get a job and continue on into achieving my RN degree if I want to after that?
I'm so confused, time is not on my side, is it realistic to go to school to be an LPN anymore? Would really appreciate any feedback you can offer me!! Thanks so much!

You're 52? Eh, so what, are we ever too old to go after our dreams? If you don't at least try you will always wonder "what if." Do not underestimate what you are capable of doing. Three years is really not that long. If you think RN would make you happier than LVN then go for it .
There are many people at my school that are pre-nursing way older than you. Don't let age stop you!!
