I graduated in 1993 from a very difficult program with a 2.98. I went to Loyola new Orleans for my msn, graduated this may with a 4.0. I applied for an ANP at three NP schools...USA, UAB, and slu and was accepted into all three. I decided on USA, and am doing a postmasters ANP. If you want to be an NP do a msn in education or health care systems management, and make good grades. I am glad I did it this way, I only have to take core classes , which let's me concentrate on 1class at a time instead of 2.
thanks for the reply danapjmsn...... what does it mean when you say you only have to take core classes and which msn did to do education or HC management..... do u think i can go for CNS instead of education or HC management.....and then apply for np....the reason i m asking is because i m worried what if i cant get into np even after my msn ..what would i do with msn in education or HC management......i know there r jobs but not so many....
I got an MSN in HCSM. Loyola accepts with a GPA of 2.8. They also started a BSN-DNP NP program online. This was not available as a postmasters program. It is a great school ...a little pricey but well worth it. The core classes are theory, research, policy, law and ethics, leadership...all of that is accepted and I only have to take patho, pharm, assessment, and the clinical classes. I learned a great deal, and I would do it this way again. My classmates are having a hard time doing patho with theory. You can also apply before you finish a MSN, 9 credit hours will transfer. If you make A's this will show you can do grad school, giving you a better chance. I know it seems like going around the long way to get to the goal, but with a lower GPA you might not be as competetive, but with a MSN, you have already proven yourself and I think it puts you ahead of the pile. Good luck with your decision.

This is a bit off the subject but I am going for the family psych NP program but I don't know where I want to apply to yet and I am also thinking about relocating. I was just thinking I could take the advanced path, advanced health assessment and advanced pharmacology at UNLV (local university) until I know where I am going. I was thinking that these will be the hardest classes and I could get them knocked out. Will I have any problem transferring them when I decide where I want to go? I am really anxious about the path and pharm and want to get it out of the way. All input is welcome. Also, I am considering University of South Alabama's family psych program but I have read a lot of negative comments on the program. Thanks.
I am in patho at usa now. Its pretty fast paced with a test every 2 weeks. So far I am maintaining an A, but I study about 4 to 5 hours a day. I find the faculty responsive and accomodating so far. Some universities will allow you to take grad. Level classes without being in the program. Some programs list 4hours of patho is needed others require 3 hours and thats where you might have problems transfering credits.
Thanks for the info, danapjmsn. I will try to find a 4 credit hour class to make sure it will transfer wherever I go.
