please HELP ME!!

Published

hi, this is a great board! i have a serious problem maybe someone can help. i graduated a georgia nursing school in 1996. i have an associates degree. i took the nclex after graduation, but i did not pass. i chose to pursue a business opportunity and have been doing so ever since. i recently decided to get my rn license but was told that i cannot take a refesher course and take the nclex over because i never had a license. i was told i had to re-enter nursing school all over again! (start back at square one) has anyone ever had this problem? i dont understand why someone can come back after 15 years of their license lapsing and take a refresher and i cant. nursing has changed and neither case would be up to par. thanks for any help!

I would guess that your state's BON would have better answers than most of us would...good luck!

What if you took an NCLEX review course instead and then tried taking the exam and acquiring a license, before applying to a refresher course?

in ga you must pass nclex withina 3 year period after graduating. if not you are not eligible. thanks for reply

Well, it sounds pretty cut-and-dried, then. Do they consider completion of an RN refresher course to be "graduation"? Because otherwise I don't see how you could get around that restriction.

Check other state boards requirements, it may be easier there to get your license. Then see if your state will recognize it and allow to you get a license there just by paying the required fees (some states will). Check with the travel nurses sites they have already done the research of what is required in each state.

thanks for help, that is a great idea maybe it will work.

Your other option would be to see if you can find a school that will let you challenge certain courses in pursuit of a second graduation.

You could also go get your BSN and thereby graduate again.

Here in California, I think we have 18 months to pass the NCLEX before we lose our eligibility.

I think you're in a pickle without a quick fix.

Call Thomas Edison College in NJ see if they will except all of your college credits an award you the AS Degree and but check first if this College is except in your State. GA is deciding or have already voting on against a Nursing Degree from a NY College, If that the case you could work in a Federal VA Hospital located in GA. They would except the degree even the one from NY in .

Look into another Community College in GA they might except most of your credits and you might only have to take one course in nursing or something else like a another science and get a AS in Nursing again it might even be a online course. Or Talk to a counselor in nursing at the College you graduated from and see what they can do to help you. I am sure there is a answer even call write the state board of nursing department. You could try to BSN Route as mentioned already.
