Published

Hello all.

I want to go to LPN program but I don't know what to do first.... I feel a litle scare... What should I do now??? Can someone pls help me???... I will go to LPN in tech school in this April ....but in my mind I have nothing. I don't know anything about biology, or Anatomy. and I quit school in 1996 now I come back school ???...is this ok ???....I have 2 boys (6yrs and 4yrs) do you think I will time for that ( I have no job right now). What class I need to take before school start. What book I should read before school ????....

Please help. Thank you all.

I just started LPN school on Jan 6th. I have no medical background, and about half of the class has none as well. To prepare I just reviewed some of the first chapters of the text books once I rcvd them. I wld suggest practicing fractions, decimals, and ratios b/c dosage calculations is usually a pass/fail test in the first semester. Also read some other posts on lpn school, but I' sure you can do it even with children. I would suggest not working though.

thnkyou for reply.... but how your class going ???... are you going Tech school or are you going to College ???..

Pls give me more advice. Thankyou.

here is a link to a post I submitted on Thurday: https://allnurses.com/lpn-lvn-nursing/my-first-second-448607.html

Btw, I'm taking the course at a comunity college, also finishing up an Assiciates degree in Paralegal at another college, only 3 more classes to go.

By "tech school" do you mean a proprietary school (not affiliated with a college?) I may be biased, but I would suggest you investigate a program at a community college if possible. Most vocational/practical programs are "all inclusive" meaning that there are no pre-requisites although some programs may require one or two.

One recommendation I would make is to have good, reliable transportation and babysitters, and back-up plans in the event either fails! Most programs have rigid attendance requirements (with good reason), and you do not want to be struggling at the last minute to find a ride or childcare.

I agree with LovelyStudentNurse regarding the math. It is not high level, but if it has been a while since you studied, you certainly want to brush up on the topics she mentioned! There are several very good used self-study math books out there. I also agree that you should not work if you do not have to. This is a demanding course of study, and you will need to study!

Allow your family to help you with day to day activities....even the little ones can help fold clothes! Find recipes for simple quick meals, decide that the house doesn't need intense cleaning for a year, and set up a schedule for study time. I could go on and on, but you will find things that work for you and your family.

Also realize that many times husbands/significant others will not understand the amount of time your studying will take, and how much pressure you will feel while in the program. Start preparing them now that you will probably not be able to focus your attention on them as much as you were before school (they will still be surprised!)

Good luck with your studies...it can be done!

Only 2 people in my LVN(LPN) class had any sort of science background at all. If your kids are 6yrs and 4yrs old- you are certainly young enough to study and retain information just fine despite the time gap.

You enrolled yourself in a program before you thought through your child-care issues? Or found out how much time school and studying would likely take? Or asked if there was anything you needed to do before starting the program? ie take science classes-I think you should schedule an interview with the Academic Counselor or Admissions or whoever is in that capacity. Write down all your concerns and bring the list with you. Good luck in school!! :)
