Please Guide me(Foreign Nurse)

Published

Hello everybody

I'm a registered nurse from USA? I want to move to Australia(sydney).

How can I prepare for RN-exam? which books or material should I use?

Please guide me? Do they accept NCLEX_RN from USA?

Thanks in advance.

Australia has both individual Nurses Boards, as well as the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council. I would suggest contacting both of these, plus also may be a couple of Australian agencies may be able to help. I am unaware of an exam similar to the NCLEX for entry to Oz. I think there may be a requirement to actually do some practical as a student before being given registration, but just double check as I said. We've had some great nurses where I live come from the Phillipines and Zimbabwe, but I haven't seen any from the US, perhaps because Sydney is usually first point of call. All the best.

Thanks so much for your help.

Could you please tell me is there any website for the books that I can study for RN exam?

I need your help as you are a Registered nurse in Australia.

I really appreciate.

Best.

There are no RN Exam in Australia. As TIWI have mentioned you have to contact the Board of Nursing (Nursing Board of NSW) and then follow their instruction. They will assess you based on your competency to practice as a nurse.

This the link to New South Wales Board of Nursing.

Where do you want to stay in Australia?

Our assessment system is a competency based system so there is no theoretical examination but do not think that will be easier than the NCLEX. You might be required to undertake a 3 month "bridging" course before you register here.

You'd do well to obtain information about our unique way of speaking. We use words unique to Australia and some of those words might confuse you!

Also, some words YOU use are inappropriate here in Oz. ie; If you go around saying Fanny, (as in "fanny pack"), you'll soon discover it has an entirely different meaning here in our country! And, we DON'T root for a team here! We barrack for a team. Again, the word root has an entirely different conotation here in Oz.

Same with drug names and other names for equipment. Different from America.

Best Wishes in your endeavour to come here to live and work. :)

We really don't make it easy in Australia do we? Where I work, many of our nurses are from the Phillipines, Zimbabwe, Britain, and we both learn from them and appreciate their presence. I have cut and pasted information from the NSW nurses board below (since you said you were interested in Sydney)

Sorry, I really don't know the processes involved. That is why I suggest you contact the nurses board in the State you are planning to go to.

Read the stickies in the begining of this forum. All the website of the Immigration dept and each board is given there.

Get a registration done in a state.

You may have to do a courses for the state to register you. The state Board will advise you about this. Cost could be in the range of Aus $ 7-8000 + travel + stay etc.

After registration you can get a job and a working visa.

Best wishes & good luck
