I am reposting this as a main thread because I just realized that I may have hijacked that other thread with a question that didn't go along with the other thread.

I have a friend who is applying in May for WCCCD's nursing program and she has a class that she took online that the instructor was impossible and she was failing the class. This class is NOT a corequisite or prerequisite for the nursing program. Anyway, the instructor gave her an XW instead of a fail and now she is worried about that being on her transcript for the nursing program application. I am not sure what to tell her because I really don't know how it will affect her chances of getting in.

She has a 3.9 GPA and she got an 86 on the NET test. Do you think this XW will hinder her chances of getting into the program? I told her worse case scenerio she will have to retake that class and then reapply for the following semester.

What do you guys think? She is really worried about it and I just dont know what to tell her!

TIA!

If that class is not one of the pre/co reqs, it will NOT factor in on their gpa for the nursing program :)

Thanks Wyandotte, we already know that it wont factor into her GPA because XW's don't affect the GPA anyway. What she is concerned with is whether or not it will affect her chances of getting into the program because it is a walk away status.

Thank you so much for replying though!

and again...if it does not pertain to the nursing program, they dont even look at it....have a good eve....

I had an XW on my transcript and I got into the program at WCCCD. They only look at either the 5 pre-reqs, or all the pre-reqs and coreqs, whichever gpa is higher.

Thank JillianRN2B! We really wanted to hear from someone that had an XW on their transcript and gotten in to their program! I can't wait to tell my friend the good news! Thank you so much!

WyandotteMomma,

Thank you for your replies. I hope I didn't offend you in any way, my friend is just really nervous about that XW and having someone that actually had an XW and was accepted makes all the difference! Thank you again for all your help!
