Placenta

I'm making a chart on the endocrine system. My instructor had informed us that "Placenta is a gland." I have to write what hormone it produces, the function, hypo & hyper secretions (disorders)....can anyone help me?

All of this information can be found in a basic OB nursing text.

Primarily the placenta produces hormones to maintain the pregnancy after the first trimester:

hcg

progestins (among which are progesterone)

estrogens

and relaxin

these are the MAIN ones (there are others).....but I suspect your instructor will want you to know what their functions are, as well. You SHOULD be able to find these in your OB text as stated above. This gives you a basic start, only.

Good luck on your project!
