picc nursing

hi Friends,

I am just wondering do you anyone has an information about PICC course , in california. I am an RN from Canada, visiting in California in August . I want to take a PICC course in there since it is very difficult to find an institution doing PICC courses in Islands .

Your opinion is highly appreciated.

Contact the Infusion Nursing Society. Our PICC manager (vascular access manager) is on their board of directors. I'm sure they will have the answer for you.

What part of California...I need to know what cities you will be in to help you. Please be advised that when you take a didactic course it does not make you competent to place PICCs. I have trained many nurses to place PICCS and studies show that when learning to place PICCS with Ultrasound and MSN it takes 20 to 50 insertions to become minimally competent. Even after that you will continue to learn and it's nice to have an experienced PICC nurse with you if feasible so they can guide you on the more difficult insertions. All kinds of things can happen. It is not always smooth sailing with PICCs threading effortlessly into the SVC.
