PICC line certification

I know St. Pete College here sometimes offers a continuing ed course in PICC's, but I don't know about your area. I moved to the Florida section of our website to hone in on some Florida folks that might know more.

I hve been an l/d nurse for 13yrs. Love it and like you wnted to get into picc lines. Love doing picclines. We went to a course by Bard Access. See if your hospital uses bard products. I am in Michigan.

It's been ages, so things may have changed.

The hospital I worked at used to certify nurses to do this in the ICU. I know some hospitals still do in the oncology areas. It is a relatively easy thing to learn, and it is a shame, that it is not promoted more as a advanced nursing procedure.

I know there were some issues at one time with reimbursement. I don't know if this is still the case. If a nurse performed the procedure, it could only be billed for as an IV insertion. It was promoted that they be done in radiology so that it could be billed as an interventional procedure, which is significantly more.

If the usual online searches do not give any information, I would probably attempt to call your local hospice provider or the education department at your local hospitals. They might be able to provide more information. The only people I know who are certified to do them in Florida(obviously I don't know everyone) got certified 15 years ago, before all the reimbursement snags.

There is a school that specializes in continuing education for nurses in North Miami that does PICC line training and certification. Its called Nursing Unlimited. They have a good reputation in the area and I've taken some classes with them in the past. All their courses are taught by very experienced RNs, and I like their no-stress approach to teaching.

Does anyone know of any job opportunities in PICC line insertion for an RN? I work in an oncology/hematology office. I have very good IV skills but am looking to advance my skills. I would love to become certified in PICC line insertion and obtain a part time position in Florida. Any ideas??

what about in mississippi? also what if the hospital doesnt allow at this point for nurses to insert picc lines- who would i need to speak with to see if they would ever allow that/
