Physician Assistant?

I saw that the University of Manitoba offers a masters program to become a Physician Assistant... Has any one ever seen or heard of Physician assistants in our hospitals here in Canada?

Yeah, there was one on the unit I did my final placement in school. I honestly thought she was a physician herself, or a resident anyway. She looked and acted just like the residents...worse a stethoscope...assessed patients just like the residents, attended meetings with the physicians and the residents...I'm honestly not really sure what the job role is or what their scope is. I've read that it's at the discretion of the physician the assistant is working under, however this PA looked, walked, talked and worked just like a physician to me.
