My physical was walking up the hill to the building where the interview was.

Oh I can only hope for that. I no longer have the energy that I had when I was a new nurse. :)

That totally depends on where you are interviewing. When I interview people I take them on a tour of the facility. We walk up and down stairs and up a hill. They don't even know they are taking a physical test.

So you watch them during the tour and what would make you not hire them.

I am asking because Years ago I interviewed for a home health position and I had to ride a bike for 25 min and keep my pulse under a certain number, that I passed. Then I had to lift a weight bar to prove I could lift a body if needed, passed that too. I failed on the next test where they had me pick up a box from the ground using correct posture carry it and place it on a table, then go back and place it on the ground and add 5 lb each time. he first told me I was getting sloppy with placing the box on the ground and picking it up. After many trips I asked how much wt I needed he said he would let me know and to just keep going and he wanted me to go faster because I was slowing down. Then all of a sudden he stopped me and said you were too slow so I failed.

I was still hired because the manger fought for me but I dont want to go through this again not prepared.

Again it would depend on that particular insitution and what their needs are.

We do not have elevators at our facility and we have about 10 buildings that are spread out over a city block. We have a bag that weighs about 30 or 40 pounds that we have to lug to all emergencies. We have to be able to take the bag and get to any place in the facility in less than 5 minutes. Towards the end of the walking part of the interview, I will tell the applicant about the physical requirements and ask if he/she has any concerns or questions about it.

WOW: I didn't have to do that kind of testing for the Emergency Medical Services. I wonder how their insurance company would have like paying for injuries acquired through such testing?

I am in Ca and on their site it looks like they dont have any openings right now, so I might just fill it out and wait. Thanks for your replies.
