Quick question--Is PPA (phenylpropanolamine) still being sold OTC or has it been banned yet? PPA is an ingredient found in many common over-the-counter cough and cold medications and appetite suppressants and may increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke.

It was banned in November of 2000 in the US. It is still available in many other countries.

Long gone from here.

Thank you for the information. There was a "voluntary" ban issued by the FDA in November, 2000. Looks like NO products in the US have this ingredient anymore.

It is still used in the US for veterinary use only. Many dogs use it for incontinence.

I could've sworn I recently saw phenylpropanolamine listed as an ingredient in an OTC allegy or cold medication. Will re-check this.

Larry please let us know if you find that medication! I cannot take anything with psuedoephrine in it and when I need something now, I'm SOL.
I'm hip to the prob's with Sudafed -- excitability and heart palps. Won't go near the stuff.
Haven't taken anything for colds and the like for years. Sleep on the recliner and drink lots of fluids.
Should be able to check our local pharmacy by this weekend. Hang in there!
