PhD?

Specializes in none at the moment.

Hello, I was looking into possibly returning to school for my PhD and am wondering what program I should choose? I thought maybe Capella University as they have a nursing education PhD program however I don't see where that's accredited and I am curious because the curriculum is so different than other PhD programs from other schools.. Has anyone else gone through with the Capella University Program? Would that be an okay online university degree to complete or be recognized?

Thank you for any insights to this

Hmm...good question. I am also considering Capella.

Specializes in Assistant Professor, Nephrology, Internal Medicine.

Avoid for profit doctoral degrees. My institution will never hire them for full time faculty positions.

Agree with Bumex in that you should avoid for profit institutions. They are perceived as being of inferior quality. A PhD is a huge investment in time. If you are planning to pursue it, you want the investment to pay off and not be perceived as being sub-par. There are plenty of online nursing PhDs from reputable institutions (e.g. Vanderbilt). Personally, I would never choose an online program for a PhD. I think frequent face-to-face interaction with peers and instructors and research opportunities offered on campus are invaluable to the doctoral experience.
