I am applying for the RN program at PHCC for August 2009 and wanted to get some input on what kind of competition there is w/ some of the applicants??? It seems like its so hard to just get a straight answer so I figured I'd start my own thread to find out whats going on and help us all get some of our questions answered I have a 4.0 GPA and did take the NET test today for the first time and didn't do as good as I wanted. Im going to do it again & try for a better score. I keep reading that last year they didn't accept anyone under a 3.8 GPA, is everyone apply at or above that?
What kind of NET scores is everyone applying with??? I'd love to get some feedback on this! Thank you!!!!

I am going to apply for the fall RN program at PHCC. My adviser actually had to talk me into it. She says I stand a pretty good chance with my current GPA and NET scores compared to what they took last year. I have a 3.62 GPA in my Pre-reqs and I scored an 85 overall on the net with a 78 in reading and a 93 in math. I would of had a 4.0 if it was not for the bad a&p teacher I had for a&p I. Last year the entering students that were taken had a 55 to an 88 in the reading sections. I believe the 3.8 is a myth because my neighbor and his wife just graduated from the program and people in their classes had below 3.8 GPA and got in. I am not sure on the exact numbers. However my advisor had to talk me into applying for the fall term. She says she does not see why I wont get accepted with my current GPA and NET scores.
I hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Thank you! I did the NET for the first time yesterday and my overall was only a 64! lol Im horrible at any timed tests and have never never done very well with Reading Comp. After I finished the test the lady stopped me walking out the door and said she wanted to see see how I did. Once she saw I had NET scores she said she didn't know anything about that. That was very frustrating to me. Im going to actually read the Study Guide (take it more seriously) and go and try again. Im just worried now, since the deadline is so close.
Best of luck to you & thanks again!!!

Nicole,
Working through the study guide helps a great deal. Spend about 2 hours each day just working through the questions. You can also go to the library and there is a learning lab. Go to the learning lab and tell them you need help with your reading comprehension. They will either give you books to study at home or they should let you work through some stuff on the computers. This helps a lot. You still have a little time. The application is not due until the end of the month. I think they are even accepting them till June 1st because of the holiday, but don't quote me on that. I can help you with the math section if you would like. The reading comprehension section I can't help with much cause that is just something you have to do over and over by yourself till you get better. If you need any help let me know. I am on the west campus on M and W from 11 - 3, so it isn't a problem to come earlier or stay a little later to give you hand. Let me know.

I've started working on the study book and have pretty good scores in the Math practice tests now. Im going to start working on the Reading now. Thank you for your help : )
The thread "All About The Net" pinned at the top of this area has a wealth of resources for reading and math. Carlos did a great job putting that information together. It should help you also. Sorry I did not tell you that earlier, I forgot about it.
