2. A Nitro Drip is infusing at 3ml/hr. The solution avail is 50mg/250ml Calculate mcg/hr and mcg/min. I know this its 5mcg per hr but the problem is how do you get there. its something I need to review for myself. Somebody pls help.:uhoh3:

This smells like homework to me. You should recheck your answer for #2 it's a lot more than 5mcg/hr

You have 2mg in 250cc, therefore how many mcgs are in a mg? How many min in a hr? How many cc's in hr? How many in the solution.... It is basic math. It is not calculus.

You are making it too hard.

Your answer to #2 is wrong. Try again. Ask a student to help. You are going to slap your forehead when you get the answer.

Is this a nursing homework or nursing boards question??? Isn't school out? If you are currently working in a unit they have titration sheets to use. No time for math class when a patient is crashing!!

Aah! Drug calcs!! Know the math before you kill your patients-yeah right! With all the smart infusion pumps, who needs drug calcs?

1. a. If 250ml of D5W contains 2mg, it follows therefore that 30ml/hr will have 0.24mg/hr i.e (2mg x 30ml/hr) /250ml.

b. Now we know that 0.24mg/hr = 240mcg/hr i.e If 1mg = 1000mcg therefore 0.24mg/hr = 240mcg/hr

c. We know from b above that epi is running at 240mcg/hr = 4mcg/min

2. Use same logic as above and you will arrive at 0.6mg/hr and 10mcg/min.

Goodluck!

avail: 2mg/ml & order: 30ml/hr

a. mg/hr=2mg/250ml x 30ml/hr=60/250 = 0.24mg/hr

b. mcg/hr=1000mcg/1mg x 2mg/250ml x 30ml/1hr = 60000/250 = 240mcg/hr

c. mcg/min=1000mcg/1mg x 2mg/250ml x 30ml/1hr x 1hr/60min = 60000/15000 = 4mcg/min

*****dimensional analysis, learn it and you can work out most any dosage!

apply to next q:

a. mcg/hr = 600mcg/hr

b. mcg/min = 10mcg/min

Nurses still need to know basic math. Get a calculator, asap.
