Petaluma Ca

Can anyone tell me if petaluma is a nice area to live in and can Nurses afford to live there. What does the salary for Nurses in the area average. I just got finished working at Vandenburg Med Cntr near vacaville and explored the area on the weekends. My only fear is that I won't be able to afford the lifestyle that I can provide for my family in Detroit. Nurses are you living well in California. Thanks for your replies.icon7.gif

I live about 15min from petalum and wouldn't live anywhere else. It is quite expensive and salary range depends upon where one works. If one works out of Marin (20-30min away) or SF (40min away) you can make anywhere from 40-50/hr; new grads working nights at Marin General are making about 85,000/year.

I used to live in Petaluma and it's beautiful! I love Sonoma county....lots of vineyards and cows. Ditto to the post above....housing prices are outrageous!!

I'm in petaluma. I moved here about 4 months ago from the southeast. Pay is much higher, about double what I made back home. Housing prices are absurd- about triple prices in the SE/midwest. A two bed condo is 400k. Rents are high but not quite as bad. Everything is more expensive, but real estate is the only part that is out of hand.

Petaluma is my favorite town around here. The west side of town is nice. Santa rosa is kind of a dump in my opinion, but it has some larger hospitals, including a trauma center. San rafael is nice, but the rents are even higher.

Santa Rosa is NOT a dump.I lived in Santa Rosa for 9 years and lived and worked in Petaluma for 3 years. SRJC located in Santa Rosa is listed as one of the top 5 JC's in the nation and their hospitals have great reputations too. It all depends on the area you're referring too. As with any city, there are nice places and not so nice places. Same being said for Petaluma and even, Marin AND San Rafael.
