I live about 15min from petalum and wouldn't live anywhere else. It is quite expensive and salary range depends upon where one works. If one works out of Marin (20-30min away) or SF (40min away) you can make anywhere from 40-50/hr; new grads working nights at Marin General are making about 85,000/year.
I work from home for a small company based in SF. There are 18 nurses working from home, have to have high speed internet but it's great. After hours and weekends so most of the nurses use as a second job. The pay is ok, btw 25-30/hr but most of us enjoy the freedom. The jobs are out, just have to always be on alter.
In the state of CA two things apply: 1) it is not within the scope of practice for an LVN to perform an assessment; 2) there was a law passed in 2001 that states only an RN (or MD) can perform telephone triage. Be careful - if it's not within their scope, the managing RN could be held accountable.
