I am applying to two schools for the Spring of 2010. They both ask for a personal statement. I am having a hard time with it. I would appreciate any suggestions. The track I am applying for is Family Nurse Practitioner.

I have to address the following points:

  • Reason for your decision to enter the graduate program in your chosen specialty.
  • Your goals and expectations as an advanced nurse practitioner.
  • Describe how you have practiced the roles listed below and how you expect to improve your performance through graduate study.
    • Quality care provider
    • Teacher, manager, consultant
    • Practitioner who integrates psychosocial, developmental, and cultural aspects into care.
    • Change agent in the professional arena.
    • Developer of innovations in care protocols and care delivery

Thanks for any help!

You probably need to write something and people can critique. I don't think anyone's going to write it for you.

I think the best way to start writing such an essay is to simply jot down your true answers to the questions -- without worrying about grammar, punctuation, well-written sentences, etc. They you can start to construct paragraphs that coherently take your answers and put them in a form that expresses your thoughts in a way that is both easy and pleasant to read.
