periop intern interview..help

Im a new grad RN who just got an interview for a perio-op intern position. I only did 1 day of clinicals in the OR/PACU and have no clue what to expect from the interview or how to prepare for it.. please help! Also, In nursing school i started a portfolio but never finished it, I'm having a hard time deciding if i should finish the portfolio for the interview or just stick with my cover letter, resume and letters of rec. Thanks!

I work peri-op but hard to say what the interviewer will want? Find out what kind of surgery they mainly do? General (hernias, chole's), opthalamic, orthopedic, ENT, etc. Go to the interview with a little knowledge about some basic surgeries.

Most peri-op's expect the RN to start IV's, so say your are good, or great?, or comfortable with starting IV's.

Some want ACLS and maybe PALS, they might expect you to find and pay for your own certification, or they might let you know when classes are offered and help pay.

Many want the patients in and out the door quickly, so can you work quickly?

Make it clear you are a fast learner and able to multitask---there is a LOT to learn, but it is definitely very doable if you apply yourself. Being flexible and able to adapt to last minute (and multiple, sometimes) changes is a plus. Being a new grad, I would think they'll be looking for a strong interest in the area, basic knowledge of what you might be doing, and confidence--you'll be dealing with diva surgeons 1 to 1. Not sure about the portfolio, but good references are an absolute win, I think, in any situation!
