So one of my patients is on a peg tube and I had to decompress her due to her nausea and vomiting but before I can decompress her is it wise to give her her med before doing so?

Are you giving the med via the peg tube? If so, if you immediately decompress ( I am assuming you are connecting the tube to suction) the med will just be sucked out immediately. Not to mention if the patient is having high residuals, the med likely wouldn't be absorbed anyways.
I would get a prn order for an anti emetic via another route and discuss with the doc holding any other medications until the patient has improved.
All this is the assumption that the patient has high residuals. What kind of feeds is she having? Is her rate too fast? Does she actually have high residuals? Is the n&v new? New PEG?

No, it's not wise. You get the med switched to IV if possible. You would just suck out the med. And if they are vomiting, they would more than likely just vomit the med anyway even if you weren't going to decompress.

I would try to get any meds switched to IV so she can have relief without the medication being sucked out through the PEG.
