Peer Assistance Programs

Published

Hi all,

I did a search for this topic and could find nothing that wasn't over more than a year old so here goes.

Does anyone have an opinion about the peer assistance programs coordinated by the various State licensing boards for nurses with addictions? Do you know anyone who went through the program and returned to nursing?

From what I have observed, at least in New York State, the program is really great. It allows nurses to recover, regain their self-respect, and continue in their chosen profession. The lasted statistics I could find stated that 75% of nurses entering the programs main long-term sobriety. This is much higher than the population in general.

Thank you very much for all responses.

I Know I am in WV and it is not that great a program the Board seems out to get you here... But In Florida.... THEY have a fabulous program called the IPN It is short for Intervention program for Nurses.... They will help you get counseling and get your life back together.... check it out on the website....

I truely believe in recovery programs, I was in PEER assistance in the state of Oklahoma for 6 months, until the Oklahaoma board submitted my name to the Office of Inspector General and that ended my career, for now, the people in the group I was in, were extremely helpfull, it was the Oklahoma state board authorities that are visciously cruel, I lift weights and take protein drinks along with creatine and glutamine, this caused my urine to be diluted, at one point I was drug screened every week, finally I had to quite the creatine and glutamine, thank god I stayed away from androstack, so there are a alot of variables in a monitored program, alot of ways you can be misunderstood, and a wide range of false positives, I even had to stay away from energy drinks, read my story on this site entitled " Down and Dirty in the Oklahoma state board of nursing". My hat is off to those respectfull people who join programs and get help with addictions.:) QUOTE=deermedicine]Hi all,
