There are currently two bills, one in the State Senate and one in the State Assembly, which would require 45 hours of continuing education every three years to renew our licenses in New York State. I am interested in how other NYS nurses feel about this? I know other states have been doing it. Thank you for all replys

Hi all, I did a search for this topic and could find nothing that wasn't over more than a year old so here goes. Does anyone have an opinion about the peer assistance programs coordinated by the various State licensing boards for nurses with addictions? Do you know anyone who went through the program and returned to nursing? From what I have observed, at least in New York State, the program is really great. It allows nurses to recover, regain their self-respect, and continue in their chosen profession. The lasted statistics I could find stated that 75% of nurses entering the programs main long-term sobriety. This is much higher than the population in general. Thank you very much for all responses.

I apologize if this question upset you. I did try to look through other threads but could not find what I was looking for to continue my research on nurses' opinions. I am new to this site. I was told it was a terrific site to ask questions. Maybe not!

I am curious how other nurses feel about a proposed National Health Insurance that would cover all Americans? Do you feel it would help or hurt the health care system we currently have. I am doing research for a school paper (finally getting a BSN after 31 years as an RN :) ). Thank you for any replies.

We all know our health system is in trouble. Millions of men, women, and children are uninsured or underinsured. Reform must occur. What role can nurses playing in assisting the reform of our health care system in American? Thank you
