Pearls of Wisdom

Hello everyone!

First time poster here! I am 7 months into being an RN and am starting my first hospital job next week in pediatrics. I have been working in an office setting since getting my license. I would love to hear any words of wisdom from the experienced nurses out there. If you could give me one piece of advice to succeed in my new position, what would it be?

Thanks! :nurse:

The best words of wisdom I could give you is to NEVER be afraid to ask questions no matter how silly you think the question may be. That one question just might save u from making a huge mistake.

Also, always cross your T's and dot your I's on the job. Alot of nursing units are intoxicated with silliness and cattyness of the staff. Some nurses thrive off getting new nurses in trouble. Trust me. I went thru this as a new nurse. People tattling on me for silly stuff. Then I realized they are just trying to bring me down and I proved to them that I can do this!

Good luck. Have fun wit the kids. And don't just interact with the IV pump. Make sure to engage in lots of conversation (if you have time) with the kids too : ) And the parents. You gain their trust that way.

A sick kid who is quiet is one that I watch very, very closely.
