Good luck! I took it a couple years ago and passed on my first try. I used the Ed4Nurses review course (David Woodruff) and it was very helpful.

Hello Everyone,

How did your test go? Any encouraging words? I am studying to take mine. Just finished the course at the hospital where I work. Any help would be appreciated. Also, did you have to have that disaster recovery course to take the test. I noticed that they ask you if you have taken it on the application. Please let me know.

Thanks..

What qualifications do you need to sit for this exam?

You have to have about a year of working with progressive care patients, have a license in good standing and pay up to take the test. Seriously, i think that's it. I just took the PCCN exam in August and passed. I studied for about 6 weeks. The nurse educator at work was helpful in procuring the DVD review from ACCN. AND, the hospital reimbursed me for costs after I passed. Good luck.

Thank you for the info. Does working at a CVIMU qualify as progressive care? What type of units qualify for progressive care?

Thanks,

Joy

Yes it absolutely would count! Cardiac and PUlmonary make up over half the test and that will make it easier for you.

Progressive care can also be a step down unit or even a unit with very high acuity. My unit isn't labeled as anything except TCV surgery, but we get day 1 CABGs and fresh thoracotomys into our TIMU so that qualifies. Also, lol, most of our floor patients would be in an ICU at any other hospital. Hope this helps.

Thanks it does!

TVCNURSE, really appreciate your information. I am thinking about buying the Progressive Care Nursing Certification Preparation, Review, and Practice Exams. Would that be all I need to pass the exam? I am on a budget and want to get the most bang for my buck!

Thanks,

MBARN
