Do all nurses make time-and-a-half after working more than 8 hours on a 12 hour shift or does this depend on the individual hospital?

I think it depends mostly on the state? I've heard that in parts of the pacific northwest this is done, but never have I seen Texas, Kansas or Missouri do this at any hospital at any time. I assume you're more likely to see this at union hospitals as well.

Maybe it depends on the specific company?? I was under the impression that it is up to the individual companies as to how they work this out. The hospital I worked at (and many other facilities) only pay straight time. If you are assigned and accept 12 hour shifts you are only paid straight time, you then get to work less days to get the same 40 hour pay. If you are scheduled for an 8 hour shift and then stay for 12 you may get time and a half, then again it depends on your employers policy. Some places pay for anything over 8 hours, while others will only pay time and a half for anything over 40 hours.

depends on who you work for.
