Hi I am an ARNP in Fl 3 years of experience. I want to start teaching RN students as a clinical instructor part time. What can I expect to be paid hourly? thanks

That can be a little hard to answer as a lot goes into that.  Adjunct clinical instructors in my area tend to make about $5-8K per class. Meaning, if you have a 12 hour medsurg clinical with 10 students that meets weekly for a full semester you should expect around the upper end of that, maybe even more. I have even seen some subjects pay more (such as mental health) due to the lack of people.

Fulltime faculty in my area make between $60-75K on a 9 month contract with a masters. A PhD tends to make $100k ish on a 9 month but, they also have research requirements as well. --- Hope this gives you somewhat of a starting point.

thanks so much Matthew!

I used to make about 2800/semester to supervise NP clinical rotations.  I honestly didn't do a thing but go to their training site once and ask if they were showing up and behaving.

Helllo peaceriver,

Feel free to review our AllNurses article on Nurse Educators, for a better understanding of the role, as well as salaries. Best of luck!

A friend of mine did a Chamberlain contract and it was equivalent to making $50/hr but grading was including in the compensation. She did her grading at home, and she told me it took 6-8 hours per week to grade the students' assignments. She also told me some instructors graded at the clinical site so that grading time was not spent on their days off.

do want to see students grow? or do you want to babysit? Clinical is where students APPLY classroom material. Be one of the helpers for helping students grow. When You see them in practice enjoy what you contributed...not in terms of $$$ but  in terms of the profession. One of the hallmarks of a profession is participating in the education of those who will come after you. If you say you are in a profession, you are obligated to do this..unless it is just a job!
