Pay per visit

I am interested in taking a new hospice position however it is pay per visit and I’m not sure exactly how that works.
Can anyone with experience of that please let me know the good or bad so I can make an informed decision.  Thank you.

I have never worked pay for visit but I don't think it is a fair deal unless you were hoping for a per diem, relief, or casual type employment as back up for other full time employees.  If you have to sit around for a specified time frame, you should be paid a full hourly wage for the hours on call. What if no one calls? What if everyone calls?

I think several factors would need to be assessed in a pay per visit scenario. There should be set rates for routine visits, admissions, recerts etc. I would also inquire about meetings, inservices, mileage and if any case management duties are involved. If you are able to multitask and are an efficient typist then per visit may be reasonable, especially if you are just performing routine visits. Sometimes visits are straightforward to document but coordination of care/ phone calls can be time consuming with phone tag etc. - this can add up. Also it makes a difference if any call is involved.

I would recommend asking a lot of questions to get a feel for how this specific agency operates.
