Pay for old timers

I'm new to this forum but not new to hospice. I've been doing this for about 12 years and am now in management. Can some of you that have been in this field for years share about how much $ you are making? We are starting people out at anywhere from 23-27/hr. We have a nurse that has been here for a while that is making 32/hr, which seems like a lot to me. I have never thought of hospice nursing as being a lucrative job.

Depends a lot on where you are located?

I think that I would rather not say for confidentiality sake, but I am in a city of about 500,000 in the east. I am not near any major metropolitan areas.

One of the hospices around here pays their full time nurses $62000/year...they are case managers ...no weekends...that's almost $30/hr.

Where on the Cape is that? Just curious because I work for a hospice on Cape and we don't make anything near that...That being said this is the third hospice(three different states) that I've worked at, we move a lot..hubby in the military, and $32 is high but not unheard of if it's hard to find good nurses in your area.

I never said anything about the Cape.

Wow if people are making that to start, what we are paying doesn't seem like so much.

Not you Gerry, CapeCodMermaid....:)

In California, it's in the 30's per hour, but you can't buy a house here on that! So think before you move anywhere for better money. :nuke:

River...you can't buy a house on Cape Cod for that either! The SNFs are paying new nurses about $23/hr....I don't know what Hospices are paying new nurses. There are at least 5 hospices on Cape and I think they all pay something different.

Pay varies widely by geographic region. In general, nobody gets rich doing hospice work but salaries are usually close to competitive within a region. It depends somewhat on the level of competition within your local job market.

$29/h; $2/h on call; .44 a mile...

south of Atlanta....
