in patient charting, difference between notes and reports.

Published

I am a student nurse. A patient charting has different tabs. What is exactly the difference between the "reports" tab and "notes" tab? can you give me some examples? Thank you.

The "reports" tab is likely results of labs, testing, procedural notes, etc. The "notes" section will contain progress notes from physicians and other disciplines such as PT/OT, dieticians, case managers, etc.

Every electronic charting system is different. My guess is "reports" is stuff like operative reports, radiology reports, etc. and "notes" is progress notes. In our system, operative reports and daily notes are filed under "Documents" while Radiology reports are filed under "Diagnostic studies."
