Past coming to bite me?

I am unsure which section to post this so I am posting this here and on the Texas nursing forum as well. Please let me know if I need to take one down.

Ok so here is the deal. I am 25 and finally figured out that I want to be a nurse. I am at SanJac in TX. My current Gpa is a 3.something. Gearing up for the Hesi and am excited. That being said this is my 3rd college. I have jumped from one degree program to another with no direction. Until my epiphany I was only in college because that's what you do after high school right ? Now I have direction and drive and a passion! But my past 2 Gpas were bad and I am talking 1.something bad. These gpas are being factored in with my current Gpa. Is it possible for me to get in now that I have my head on straight?

It is possible. Your previous school history may harm you more with some nursing schools than others. For example, some nursing schools judge you based ONLY on your prerequisite course GPA and Hesi or Teas. Others may judge you based on science GPA more heavily than overall GPA, but still factor in overall GPA and also give heavy weight to your Hesi/Teas score. The approach most likely to lead to success it to talk to each individual school about what criteria they use in admission decisions. They are usually pretty direct about how they make decisions. This will give you a better idea of where you stand and/or things you can do to improve your odds. An example of how to improve odds with some schools is to learn a second language (this is a +points criterion for some schools), volunteer (also some schools), get healthcare experience, and so on. Schools vary in their criteria, so it's wise to know the criteria for each school you're considering in order to point your efforts in the right direction. What gives you rubric points for one school's admission process will make no difference at other schools.

Most of the school I have looked into here in Texas only look at prereq GPA. You could have a 2.0 overall but a 3.8 prereq GPA and get in. Only thing to consider is study habits. You aren't studying efficiently so don't think that will automatically change.
