Hi there,
I am curious about the part time program at CCSN - now CSN. I work full time, mon - fri 8-5. Is this program going to be something I will be able to do, I mean schedule wise. I am taking 224 in fall, and then I am done with all my pre reqs and today I finally sat down and looked at dates and times, and it seems that alot of that classes fall into the 8-10:45AM category, or 2pm to 5pm. I have worked really hard to get this far, and now I am so depressed about the schedules available.
Is anyone else doing this? Working full time like me and going through the part time program that can shed some light on this?

i know they do their clinicals on the weekend. you should call the school and talk to a advisor. i have a friend that just graduated from the part time program and she worked mon through fri just like you. i think you can do it.. it's well worth it believe me. i just graduated from the full time program and passed boards 1st time and now a RN. have you been accepted yet? it's a very good program and they prepare you well for boards... good luck and let us know.
I am planning to apply for the fall 2008 program. I have been so depressed sine I looked at the schedules. Weekends I would take, sat and sunday if they were open but, I know my job will not let me have the time off for classes that intrude on my work schedule there. The reason I know this is the program has nothing to do with where I work now, so its not like its a benefit to them. Just to me, I want this so badly, but I cant go to school and not work. I am planning to talk to the advisor, I just thought I would ask.
Thank you.
BTW - Congrats on graduating!! That is really wonderful, I pray that I can say the same in a few years. But now I am really worried.
Are you working as an RN now? Was it "easy" for you to find a job?

I'm just doing pre-recs starting in August but I have wondered that myself...Is there anyway you can adjust your schedule at work...come in later or something.
Nice to hear from a fellow Las Vegan...good luck in NS.
does CSN not have night classes avail for NS?

I am currently in the part time program at CSN. Many of the students in my group work a traditional M-F 8-5 schedule. We have never had a class begin earlier than 5:30 p.m. and all of our clinical hours are on Saturday. Every once in a while, you will encounter an orientation or advising day that will require an odd time, but not often. The part-time program goes through summer classes, but they are still evening/Saturdays. It is a great option. Good luck to you!

I am also in the part time program at CCSN. When I first started the program I wourked a mon-fri 8-5 job. The program allows it to be very doable for you to continue your full-time job.
Like the poster above me stated you may have to take a day off or a few hours from work during the week once in awhile for orientation or advising with a counselor.
I should warn you the hardest part having a full time job and going part time is the summer courses. Again CCSN does make it so it will work around your employment schedule of 8-5 pm. But you will probably be going to school 4-5 days during the week for summer courses becauses they are cramming 16 weeks of material into 10, so your summers are basically gone. Its not hard its just very time consuming, but it is worth it.
Thanks everyone, that makes me feel better. A day here and there wont be a problem, and as far as summer, no biggie I just want to be able to get through it.
thanks!! :)

I was thinking of doing the Part time also when I get accepted (hopefully sometime w/in the next year or so) and how long does it take to graduate from part time vs. Full time?
The part-time program is "technically" only one extra semester. When in the part-time program, you go for 7 straight semesters (you have summer sessions). In calander years, it takes 2 1/2 years. Full timers go for 4 semesters, but only go in Spring and Fall with summers off, so it takes 2 years.
For example, part-time students that started in the Spring of 06 will graduate in May 08. The full-time students that also started in Spring of 06 will graduate in Fall of 07.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Thank you BC! I will have to check into all the options.

The people I know that are starting the part-time program this semester all work between 8-5, m-f, and have clinical on Saturday. The other thing I have come across in talking to fellow nursing students is a lot of them are in the full-time program and still work full time. One girl has it so that her clinical & pharm class are one day and her lecture & lab are on the other (Monday & Tuesday) so she works Wednesday through Sunday.
