Parking in Downtown????

I have a quick question about working at Queens......... I'm new to island and I have noticed that a very big problem for the hospitals in the down town area is parking???? I had a recent interview at Queens where I was very impressed, but I am concerned about the parking situation (day shift). Is parking an issue for other nurses working at this hospital or is it manageable??? I've heard the bus system is pretty good but I would prefer to drive myself. Are there other parking lots in the area? Any info would be appreciated!

I left Oahu a year ago and at that time there was a waiting list of years for day parking. I worked nights so there was no problem.

Were you actually promised a day shift position?

There is no parking at Queens for the day shift nurses unless you have a parking permit or are willing to fork over a small fortune for parking in the garage. I have been on the list for years and am presently number 400-something on the waiting list. If you wish to pay for parking on a daily basis, the cost is $4 per hour now, I believe. Night shift parking is free, for now, but expected to change somewhere in the near future. Of course, it's free only when you can find an empty space to park in. You can sneak into the spots reserved for doctors but if they catch you doing that more than a few times you can be banned from the garage.

You can park on the street (hahahaha), at Blaisdell (which has seriously curtailed the parking availability for those other than Blaisdell patrons), take the bus, or ride a bike, but there just is NO parking for day shift nurses on the grounds of the hospital unless they have a permit or they're willing to pay. Neighborhood parking lots also have waiting lists.
